Dogs repeat behaviors that are rewarded. MannersMinder is a remote-controlled reward system that uses positive reinforcement for training dogs to behave better. By rewarding desired behaviors, the system can be an invaluable tool in helping redirect a dog’s focus away from barking at the door, jumping on guests, and begging at the table. The system can also be used to train different behaviors such as to come when called and specialty skills such as contacts, place and go-outs.

The Citronella Bark Collar

Constant barking is not only a nuisance to you as a dog owner, it is probably not very pleasant for your neighbors or guests in your home either.  In some cases, if it is not controlled, the owner may be forced to give up the dog or face hefty fines.

One of the best solutions on the market today for controlling nuisance barking is the citronella bark collar.  As studies have shown, it is more than twice as effective as a bark collar that uses shock as the controlling factor.  Along with it’s 88.9% success rate, the citronella bark collar is a more desirable alternative for dog owners searching for the most humane way of controlling unwanted barking.

As with any training tool, the citronella bark collar works best when the directions are read and followed.

There are many options available when searching for the right dog bark collar.  How do you know which one will work for your dog?  They have all worked on some dogs but in all honesty, none of them work on all dogs.  Which one is the most effective?

After doing a considerable amount of research, this is what I have found.  The citronella bark collar has become the more desirable choice for many pet owners looking for humane solutions to problem barking.  Not only is it humane, the citronella bark collar has the best track record.  It has been found to be more than twice as effective as it’s closest competitor, the shock collar.  In a study done at Cornell, it was shown that the citronella bark collar is effective 88.9% of the time while it’s counterpart, the shock collar is only effective 44.4% of the time.  This study also showed that the shock collar caused stress and anxiety in some dogs, making them bark even more.  Some dogs even became aggressive.

As I said earlier, no dog bark collar works on every dog, but for my money, the citronella bark collar is my choice.  Being both humane and having the highest success rate is the best combination.  Read and follow the instructions in the owner’s manual and you will be on your way to having a quiet, more peaceful home.

Last night I happened to turn the television on when America’s Funniest Videos was on.  They had a clip of a man putting a shock collar on that was intended to train a dog not to bark.  It had six levels of pain that you could inflict on your dog to stop the barking.  As the man barked at each level, the pain intensified.  I have to admit, it was rather amusing to watch this young man writhe in pain every time he barked.

As a dog owner though, I consider my dogs to be family members.  I could never justify inflicting that kind of pain on any animal much less my own, especially when there are other alternatives.

The citronella bark collar is one of those alternatives.  Not only is it more humane than a shock collar, it is also twice as effective.  It has been shown in a study at Cornell University that shock collars have a 44.4% success rate while a citronella bark collar is more than twice as effective with an 88.9% success rate.  Pain can causes stress and anxiety in many dogs making them bark more or even making them aggressive.

My question is, “Why would anyone use a shock collar that causes pain and gives less than 50/50 odds of correcting the problem when there is a painless and more effective alternative?”

You love your dog , but the nuisance barking has got to stop, for your sanity and the sanity of your family and neighbors that live close by.  You have hollered at him, maybe thrown an occasional shoe at him and maybe you even swat him on the butt with a rolled up news paper but he just doesn’t get it.  Dogs thrive on attention and what you look at as disciplinary action is accepted by your dog as attention and bad attention is better than no attention.  Basically, these actions are actually feeding the fire.  You are encouraging your dog to bark by giving him what he wants-attention.

If you are at your wits end and still seeking a solution that does not involve getting rid of your dog, there is hope.  Dog bark collars are a great training aid in situations like this.  The question is, which one will work best for your dog.

With a 44.4% success rate, you could try a shock collar.  Every time your dog barks he will get a shock.  This does work in a lot of cases, however the pain can cause stress and anxiety in your dog.  In some dogs this can bring out aggressive behavior or make the dog bark more.

Another alternative is the citronella bark collar.  Not only is it painless, it is more that twice as effective as a shock collar.  As a matter of fact, it is more than twice as effective than any bark collar on the market, when used as directed.  With an 88.9% success rate, the citronella bark collar is my choice.

When a dog barks with the citronella collar on, a harmless, short burst of  citronella is sprayed toward the dog’s muzzle.  This works on four of your dog’s five senses.  He will hear it, see it, smell it and feel it.  It is unusual enough to distract your dog from whatever it is barking at and and gives you the opportunity to give him the attention he wants by praising him for being quiet.

Happy owner gets peace and quiet.  Happy dog gets the attention he desires.

Its a win-win situation.

I read a review on the Citronella Bark Collar on a website today that made me laugh.  This individual apparently adopted a rescue puppy that suffers from separation anxiety.  Every time she leaves home the dog whines and barks.  She lives in a condo, so as you can well imagine, it caused problems for her neighbors.  Someone left a note on her door asking her to fix the problem.  Fearing that the police or animal control would tell her she would have to get rid of the puppy, she ran to the local pet store and got a citronella bark collar because of its reputation for being humane.

I can only assume the lady did not bother to read the instructions.  It sounds like she just strapped it on her dog before she went to work  and figured the dog would be quite all day.  She was very disappointed with the product because it did not work.

The fact of the matter is, the citronella bark collar is a training aid, not a miracle worker.  A training aid is suppose to help you train your dog.  It is not suppose to train your dog for you.  Had she taken the time to work with her dog while he had the collar on, I think the outcome would have been much better.

The philosophy behind the citronella dog collar is this.  When the dog barks, a burst of citronella is sprayed toward the muzzle of the dog.  This interrupts the barking and gives the owner the opportunity to step in and praise the dog for the good behavior.  As with any new behavior you are trying to instill in a dog, it is a process that needs to be repeated.

It is true that some dogs dislike the citronella spray so much that it does work almost immediately without additional work from the owner but in most cases it is best to read the directions and follow them.  The results will almost always be much better.

A study was actually done on bark collars at Cornell University.  They discovered that the Citronella Bark Collar is more than twice as effective as other types of bark collars on the market, with a success rate of 88.9% compared to 44.4% for an electric shock collar.

Complaining neighbors,  sleepless nights, house guests fearing your dog because they have mistaken his behavior for aggression, all because of constant, inappropriate barking.  Nuisance barking is one of the top reasons people surrender their pets to animal shelters.  Every dog owner loves their dog, but when barking becomes a problem, what do you do?

Many dog owners have turned to the citronella bark collar to alleviate this problem.  A study at Cornell University showed that the citronella collar either eliminated or significantly reduced problem barking.  Almost 90% of the dogs tested responded  to the spray collar, while only 44.4%  responded to the shock collar.  It was also found that the pain caused by shock collars may increase anxiety and aggression, making behavior problems worse.

The citronella collar is a painless, humane solution for problem barking.  It works by dispensing a harmless yet effective burst of spray from under the chin towards the muzzle when the dog barks.  This interrupts barking and redirects the behavior without painful consequences.

The citronella collar is recommended by leading veterinarians, trainers and behaviorists as a safe, humane and effective tool in controlling nuisance barking.

If you are a first time dog owner, training your new four legged friend may seem like a daunting task.  So much so, that you may even consider taking him to a professional dog trainer.  Everybody is different and that may be the best solution for you.

For those who like the hands on, do it your self approach and the pride that comes along with saying “I trained my dog myself”, there is a training tool called the Gentle Leader Headcollar.  This training collar comes with an instructional guide and a DVD that will walk you through the steps to take to teach your dog to to be well behaved.

There is a misconception about Gentle Leader Headcollars and Haltis.  It seems that a lot of people lump them together and think they are interchangeable, when in actuality, they are not.  Although they may look similar, the Halti’s sole purpose is to get a dog to walk without pulling and lunging.

On the other hand, the Gentle Leader will teach your dog to walk on a leash too, but you will find it to be a useful training tool in almost all areas of your dog’s learning process.    Following the instruction guide, you will be able to teach your dog basic commands (sit, stay, etc.), good manners, prevent jumping, control barking and more.

The Gentle Leader is endorsed by leading vets and trainers.

You love your dog but the incessant barking has got to stop.  Throwing a shoe at him didn’t help.  Yelling at him over the barking didn’t help and it almost seemed to get worse when you did yell.   You have decided it is time to invest in a bark collar.  Now the question is, with all the bark collars on the market today, which one will give you less bark for the buck?

There are basically three different kinds of bark collars.  There is the shock collar, the aversive sound collar and the citronella bark collar.  Of these three, the citronella bark collar stands head an shoulders above the others.

With a success rate of over 88%, the citronella bark collar has been proven to be more that twice as effective as either of the other two collars.  If the choice has been made to get a bark collar, it just makes sense to get the one that is the most humane and the most effective.
