Cats aren’t as receptive to wearing t-shirts or bandannas as dogs are so what can you do to beautify your cat?  The right cat collar can make your cat stand out in a crowd.   Cat collars aren’t just a place to hang ID tags anymore.  The right cat collar can display your cat’s personality.

Cat collars now come in a multitude of colors and designer patterns.  You can even get a reflective cat collar to help protect your cat if he is allowed to roam outside.  This is important for all cats that roam outside, especially if you have a dark cat and he is outside at night.  The increased visibility it provides could easily save his life if he wanders into traffic.

Even reflective cat collars are available in many different colors.  They are not just available in blaze orange anymore.

In the past, the cat collar had two basic functions.  It gave the owner a place to hang an ID tag.  Many owners would also attach a small bell to the collar to alert and protect unsuspecting birds and wildlife.

These two basic functions are still important, but cat owners have now found the joy of allowing their cats to make a fashion statement with a stylish cat collar.  No longer is your choice limited to a few basic colors.  Cat collars are available in dozens of different colors and designer patterns.

Although we do not advocate letting house cats roam free outside, we are aware that many cat owners do.  For these cats, we recommend reflective cat collars.  It is an easy and inexpensive way to provide an added level of protection for your cat.  The added visibility it offers may save your cat’s life.

Cat collars can be useful for several different reasons, but unlike dog collars they should not be used with a leash.  Most cat collars either stretch or are breakaway collars.  If you try to walk your cat using a cat collar, the chances are real good that you will be standing there holding a leash with a cat collar hanging off the end and no cat.  The wisest choice for waking a cat is a cat harness.

A designer or decorative cat collar can be a stylish accessory for an indoor cat.  A little bell can be added to it to make it easier to locate your cat in the house.  If you allow your cat to go outside, a cat collar becomes more than a nice accessory.  It becomes a necessity.  It should carry your cat’s ID tags.  This will increase your chances of getting your cat back if he gets lost.  Attaching a bell to the collar will alert birds and other wildlife in the area that your cat is on the prowl.

If your kitty is allowed outside at night, a reflective cat collar could easily save his life.  The added visibility will help keep him safe should he wander into traffic.

Reflective Cat Collars

I am not an advocate for letting cats out of the house to run free.  It saddensreflective cat collars me every time I see a cat that has been hit by a car but I know a lot of people think their cats need the fresh air and exercise.  If that is the case, my first suggestion would be a cat harness and leash.  You will be pleasantly surprised to see how many smiles you get when you teach your cat to go for walks.

If you still choose to let you cat run free outside or if your cat is an escape artist and runs out the door when some one opens it, give him a little added protection.  Reflective cat collars are are an inexpensive way to increase your cat’s visibility in the dark and in foggy or rainy weather.  You can even get reflective cat collars that will glow in the dark after being exposed to a minimal amount of  light.  One more quick note about the reflective cat collar:  make sure it is a break away collar in case your cat becomes caught on something. Who knows?  If you put a reflective cat collar on your cat it might just save his life.

In most states, collars with an ID tag and vaccine tag are required on both catscat collars and dogs.  Because cats like to climb and get into places that dogs would never go, it is important to get a cat collar that is made specifically for cats.  Cat collars should be break-away collars that open up when tension is applied.  This safety feature prevents your cat from getting caught on something and not being able to get away.  From cute cat collars to plain nylon cat collars, you are sure to find the perfect match for your pet.

Although I do not advocate letting your cat roam free outside, I know a lot of people do.  Even if you do not plan on letting your cat run outside, sometimes they just shoot through the door before you can stop them.  For this reason, I like reflective cat collars that also glow in the dark after being exposed to light.  It makes your cat so much easier to find in the dark.  With the added visibility of a glow-in-the dark reflective cat collar, your cat will be much easier to see by motorists should your cat go on the road.
